There were two Baby Borgs presented this week as part of the festivities surrounding the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Baby Borg is an 18-inch tall replica of the famous BorgWarner Trophy presented in Victory Lane to the winner of the Indianapolis 500 and permanently on display in the Hall of Fame Museum at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The presenter in Detroit on Thursday was Parnelli Jones. Once he’d handed Dario Franchitti his Baby Borg for winning the 500 last May, Dario returned the favor by giving a delighted Jones – winner of the 1963 Indy 500 – a Baby Borg of his own.
Since Baby Borgs have been a tradition only since 1988, Jones was totally taken aback. Read the splendid report of the festivities on the RACER website.Parnelli Jones’ new autobiography, written with Bones Bourcier and published by Coastal 181, is entitled “As A Matter Of Fact, I Am Parnelli Jones”.
