Montoya is unique among drivers in the late ’90s and early millennium. He won races as a rookie in Formula 1, CART, IndyCar, GRAND-AM and NASCAR. Only driver to compete at Indianapolis in IndyCar, NASCAR and F1 with best finishes of first, second and fourth respectively. After winning numerous junior titles, was International F 3000 Champion in ’98, the same year he signed as a test driver for Williams Grand Prix Engineering, who traded him to Chip Ganassi for Alex Zanardi. In ’99, he won the CART Championship for Ganassi. The following year, Ganassi became the first CART team to jump to the IRL-sanctioned Indy 500 since the split in ’96. Montoya won. Back with Williams and then McLaren for the next four and a half years, he logged seven F1 victories, 13 poles and 30 podiums in 94 career starts. He won at Monaco, Silverstone and Monza (twice) as well as Brazil (twice) and Hockenheim. Back in the Ganassi fold in 2006, he has scored three NASCAR road course victories…two Cup, one Nationawide…plus two wins in the Rolex 24 at Daytona (’07 and ’08). For 2014, Montoya is returning to IndyCar, teaming with Will Power and Helio Castroneves and Penske Racing.
