Denise was a race car driver from the 1940’s to the 1960s, and was a sports reporter for the New York Herald Tribune during the 1950s. She received the International Automotive Media Conference’s IAMA Recognition of Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000, was enshrined in the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2001, and inducted into the Sports Car Club of America Hall of Fame in 2006. She was an outstanding race-car driver and is one of the most highly regarded journalists in the business. McCluggage was a posthumous inductee into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2022.
